Old school Main St
I am biased when it comes to Weaverville since my in-laws live here but I have found it to be a quiet respite from touristy downtown Asheville and it puts you much closer to the mountains! If you're looking for a calmer experience, you might consider staying in a town like Weaverville and head into Asheville when you're feeling adventurous.
I love downtown Weaverville for its charming Main Street. You might be able to fill half a day here which is perfect if you're heading into the mountains before or after (see Mountains for some recommendations).

- My favorite stop is Well Bred Bakery - a European style bakery that serves breakfast and even an early dinner. They have the most incredible spread of cakes, tartes, pastries and savory delicacies including breakfast sandwiches, soups and salads. Service is quick and always friendly. Consider yourselves warned, you will want to go back (there is a second location in Biltmore Village but I prefer this one).
- For great pizza and pints, head to to Blue Mountain Pizza.
- If you're not hungry but need to quench that beer thirst, make sure to check out Eluvium Brewing Company!
- If you're looking for a great place to bring the family, I recommend The Twisted Laurel.
- If you're not hungry but in the mood for some vine and a cheese plate, head to Maggie B's! A great selection of wines from around the world, great cheese and charcuterie plates - unpretentious and if you're lucky, you might even catch some live music! Be sure to check opening hours, I ended up in need of a glass of vino on a Tuesday night and found a closed door.
- If you're feeling like treating yourself, pay a visit to The Glass Onion!
Feel the Art
Not only does Weaverville cater to gourmets but you will actually find a great selection of some of the best art from the Asheville area! My favorites are
In 2019, I was fortunate to be in Weaverville for the Weaverville Art Safari for which local potters, jewelry makers, glass blowers, fiber artists and woodworkers opened their studio doors and - often - homes to invite you into their world! Learning from the artists themselves about their craft and love for the area gave me an entirely new appreciation for the pieces I was holding. And in all humility, I didn't think an unassuming town like Weaverville - in the constant shadow of Asheville - could pull off such an incredible and intimate event.
